In India, there has been a huge uproar over a video that depicts two women being paraded by a mob in Manipur, a state that has been plagued by violence.
Police claimed to have reported a gang rape and to have taken a man into custody in this matter. As members sought a debate on the subject, the Delhi parliament’s session was interrupted on Thursday.
“I pledge to the nation that justice will be served in full. More than two months after the outbreak of violence, he finally spoke out about what happened to the daughters of Manipur. “What happened with the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven,” he stated.
DY Chandrachud, Chief Justice of India, stated that the Supreme Court was “deeply disturbed over the video” and voiced worry over the assault. The chief judge warned that “we will take action if you don’t” and ordered the government to inform the court of the actions being taken against the accused.
Although the police say the assault on the woman happened on May 4, the video that went viral on social media on Thursday brought the incident to national attention. The federal government has requested that all social media networks remove the video.
Manipur’s ethnic hostilities between the Meitei and Kuki communities began in May, and since then, at least 130 people have died and 60,000 have been homeless.
On Wednesday, numerous people posted the two women’s horrifying footage on social media. A group of men drag them and prod them before pushing them into a field in the video.
In a statement, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) claimed that women from the Kuki-Zo tribal community had been the victims of crimes carried out in a village in the Kangpokpi district. The women were also accused of being the victims of gang rapes.
