Metropolis Desk-
A ship carrying 40,000 tonnes of coal arriving at Payra Port on Friday, the 1320-MW Payra Thermal Power Plant is expected to start again on Sunday.
The offloading operation began once the ship, MV Athena, arrived, according to AM Khurshedul Alam, managing director of Bangladesh-China Power Company (BCPCL), which runs the facility.
Within three to four days, a new shipment of coal for the plant is anticipated. In the first week of July, four more ships carrying coal will dock in Payra.
After storing around 200,000 metric tonnes of coal, the plant will begin power production.
The plant won’t have any problems operating, the BCPCL MD reassured the journalists, because Bangladesh will consistently receive coal.
Due to a coal shortage, two of the plant’s units stopped producing electricity on June 5.
