PIL Plans to Assemble Foreign Sedans in Bangladesh

Metropolis Desk-

By December of this year, Bangladesh’s state-run Pragati Industries Limited (PIL), which assembles cars, intends to begin producing imported sedans.

With Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), the business has agreed to set up a full knock-down assembly line for the assembly of vehicles made by the Japanese carmaker.

With the MMC’s technical assistance, PIL intends to increase the infrastructure required for assembly sedans.

According to the idea, typical consumers in the nation would be able to purchase Mitsubishi sedans with engines ranging from 1.2 to 1.6 liters in size.

Beginning in 2024, the business intends to start marketing initiatives for the new vehicles.

Customers would be able to purchase brand-new “Made in Bangladesh” sedans at competitive costs because the cost of locally built models will be at least Tk 5 lakh lower than that of imported ones.

PIL presently assembles buses, pickup trucks with double cabins, active sports crossovers, sport utility vehicles, and pickup trucks.

Due to the current economic climate, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina advised adopting locally produced PIL automobiles rather than imported vehicles for development projects.

PIL will raise the money required to establish the plant that will assemble sedans, initially producing a minimum of 200 sedans annually as a trial project.
