Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged her citizens to grow trees in order to shield Bangladesh from the negative effects of climate change.
She spoke while planting trees on the grounds of Ganabhaban on Monday in honor of World Environment Day 2023. “I would like to urge all to protect the environment of Bangladesh because it is our duty to protect our country from the adverse impact of climate change,” she said.
The PM officially launched the Environment Fair-2023, National Tree Plantation Campaign, and Tree Fair-2023 by planting three seedlings.
The PM said that a large tree-planting campaign is being carried out in order to make Bangladesh more beautiful, green, and developed.
In light of the rising prices of commodities around the world, the prime minister urged the populace to plant trees wherever they could and to put every area under cultivation for the growing of fruits, vegetables, and other crops.
Those present included the Minister of Law Anisul Huq, the Minister of the Environment Md Shahab Uddin, the Deputy Minister for the Environment Habibun Nahar, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Saber Hossain Chowdhury, the Secretary of the PMO Mohammad Salahuddin, and the Secretary of the Environment Dr. Farhina Ahmed.
