The nation’s first underground metro rail, MRT Line 1, which is being built by the Shitalaksha River in Pitalganj village about a kilometer south of the Kanchan Bridge along the 14-lane Purbachal Expressway, was officially opened.
At a ceremony held on Thursday in Purbachal New Town Project in Rupganj, Narayanganj, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially opened the MRT-1 construction.
After the metro rail service is operational, the trip time from Kamalapur to the airport will be reduced by 85% to 24.3 minutes from 139 minutes, according to the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) officials.
Additionally, the route will reduce travel times on the Purbachal to Natun Bazar and Purbachal to Kamlapur lines by 70% and 82%, respectively.
Numerous excavators and other pieces of equipment have been assembled in the construction yard by the joint venture between Japan’s Tokyu Construction and the local Max Infrastructure in preparation for the commencement of the development work after the inauguration.
