Famous poet, lyricist, author, and screenwriter Gulzar claimed on Friday that poetry is more than just a subject for textbooks; rather, it has connections to things and daily life.

“The current generation believes that poetry is only covered in textbooks,” on the second day of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Gulzar told the audience in a chat with Rakhshanda Jalil, “They are not able to see it through associating it with everyday life and things.”

“So I put these 365 modern poems (Nazam) for them solely in my book: A Poem A Day. They will be able to understand the pulse of the changing times through them as well.”

365 Nazms were collected in “A Poem a Day” by Gulzar Sahib. He compiled and translated into Hindustani 365 poets’ contemporary poems from 1947 to 2017.

Suraj Ki Aankh Micholi and violin and mridangam duets opened the second day of JLF. The day was devoted to a number of significant subjects, including open discussion of democracy, agriculture, the China dispute, poets, and public welfare.

Shashi Tharoor, a well-known author, and politician, discussed the crisis facing democracy in India and the rest of the world during a session on “Sustaining Democracy: Nurturing Democracy” with Tripurdaman Singh.

When discussing the function of large-scale protests in a democracy, Tharoor stated: “Streets fill up only on subjects where policies touch a significant portion of the public… The people in power should make the policies. Work on meeting the requirements of the populace.”

Jaan Nisar Akhtar and Kaifi Azmi, two well-known poets of the era, were mentioned in another session titled “Daira and Dhanak.” Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi published the poetry volumes “Daira” and “Dhanak,” which contain works by Jaan Nisar Akhtar and Kaifi Azmi, respectively.

Some enjoyable aspects of the time period and nazms were conveyed to the audience through these two outstanding poets who were born at the same time. The progressive movement in 1930 and its influence on the writings of both poets were noted by Akhtar Saheb.
