Metropolis Report-
The 22nd national council of the Awami League (AL) will be held in the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq, who said on Friday that security had been stepped up.
However, he denied any security risk associated with the meeting, in which more than one lakh leaders and activists of the ruling party are expected to participate.
The DMP commissioner spoke with the media during his Friday visit to the Suhrawardy Udyan. He stated that the area’s security precautions were planned with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in mind.
“The prime minister has previously survived numerous attempts on her life. Therefore, this time, we have increased security and monitoring” added Golam Faruq.
