Rovman Powell is the new Twenty20 captain for the West Indies, while Shai Hope will lead the team in one-day matches.
After Nicholas Pooran resigned from both roles in November as a result of West Indies’ early exit from the T20 World Cup in Australia, their appointments on Wednesday followed.
Hope and Powell’s first tasks will be when West Indies plays three ODIs and three T20 matches in South Africa next month.
Hope has played more than 100 ODIs for the West Indies as a wicket-keeper batsman. He has served as vice-captain in the past. Powell, an all-rounder, has played in 55 T20 internationals and is an expert at limited-overs cricket.
The next T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States.
