As Abdul Hamid’s term ends in April of this year, the presidential election will be held when appropriate, Law Minister Anisul Huq said today. After addressing a session for lower court judges in Dhaka, the minister informed reporters that since Hamid has already been elected president twice, he cannot run for another term under the constitution.
On April 24, 2018, Hamid was sworn in as the nation’s leader for the second time in a row. His second term will end on April 24 of this year. As Abdul Hamid began serving on that date in 2013, his initial five-year term ended on April 24, 2018.
The presidential election will occur between 90 and 60 days before the end of the five-year term, as stated in article 123 of the constitution.
