To combat prejudice, the Primary Teacher Coordination Council has called for the promotion of primary assistant teachers to the tenth grade and a complete departmental promotion.
According to a news release, speakers at today’s press conference at the Jatiya News Club brought attention to these problems.
In a written statement, Shahinur Akhtar, president of the National Primary Assistant Teachers Foundation, stated that discrimination against primary teachers persisted even after the announcement of the most recent national wage scale in 2015. Primary teachers have found it difficult to keep up with market rates over the last ten years due to rising living expenses. Earlier totalitarian regimes promised salary rises, but they have not materialized.
According to her, there are 20 grades in the 2015 pay structure, with Tk800 being the largest compensation differential between the 20th and 11th grades. Despite the established gap of up to Tk 12,000 between the 10th and 1st grades, the living standards of assistant teachers in the 13th grade and head teachers in the 11th grade have not improved.
Shahinur added that there hasn’t been any advancement in the head teacher promotions that have been on hold since 2009. A large number of elementary school teachers are retiring from their original roles. Additionally, there have been restrictions on head teacher promotions.
To reduce inequalities, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has suggested designating assistant teachers in the 12th grade, assistant head teachers in the 11th grade, and head teachers in the 10th grade.
The Primary Teacher Coordination Council rejected the plan, insisting that promotions to the 10th grade and departmental recognition for all entry-level positions were necessary.
The programs were declared:
On October 3, a human chain was established, and a message was delivered to the main advisor through the District Commissioner’s office.
On October 8, the Divisional Commissioner would submit a memo to the chief advisor via a human chain at strategic points in the divisional cities.
A human chain at the National Press Club and the delivery of a message to the Chief Advisor on October 19, coupled with other announcements about upcoming activities, will occur if the required steps are not taken by October 17.
