In a lawsuit brought against him under the Data Security Act, the High Court today granted Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman a six-week anticipatory bail.
Once Matiur Rahman showed up in court seeking anticipatory bail, the justices Mustafa Zaman Islam and Md. Aminul Islam issued the ruling.
The court also summoned him to appear before the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in six weeks and request bail in the matter.
On March 29, a 61-year-old lawyer by the name of Abdul Malek Mashiur Malek filed a complaint with the Ramna Police Station against Matiur Rahman, reporter Samsuzzaman Shams, an anonymous assistant cameraman, and unnamed others.
According to the FIR, Malek accused them of utilizing print, web, and electronic media to damage the state’s reputation.
The FIR also stated that the defendants deliberately distributed false information to undermine law and order. Under the DSA’s provisions 25, 31, and 35, the case was brought.
