Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, was found guilty of criminal defamation on Thursday and given a two-year prison term for his alleged use of the Modi surname during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign.
Rahul’s two-year sentence was, however, suspended for 30 days and given bail by the Surat district court. During a rally in Kolar, Karnataka, in 2019, Rahul reportedly questioned why all thieves had Modi as the common surname.
In the courtroom, when the decision was read, Rahul Gandhi was present. Purnesh Modi, a former Gujarati minister, filed the lawsuit against the Congress politician.
