Water levels in Kaptai Lake in Rangamati have increased due to heavy rainfall, causing a significant increase in power generation.

The Kaptai Hydroelectric Power Plant (KHPP) is operational, producing 135 MW of electricity per day, which is transmitted to the national grid.

The lake’s swelling is attributed to upstream water onrush. The lake’s water storage capacity is 109 feet MSL.

As of 10 am on Sunday, the five units have individual power outputs of 33 MW from Unit 1, 32 MW from Unit 2, 26 MW from Unit 3, and 22 MW each from Units 4 and 5.

The power plant has faced water scarcity in recent months, limiting power generation to only two to three units.
