The second unit of Bagerhat’s Rampal’s 1,320MW coal-fired Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant was synchronized with the national grid today at 8:51 am.
As a result, the second unit will now supply the national grid with electricity initially on a trial basis and then on a regular basis.
The plant is run by the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd, a 50/50 partnership between the PDB and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi jointly opened the plant’s first unit on September 6 of last year.
