Retain Homegrown Skilled Human Resources

Bangladesh has been a good destination for the livelihood of a large number of specialized, skilled, and experienced foreign professionals who are working on various mega-construction projects of the Bangladesh government through various local and international consultant and contractor organizations. These professionals along with their organizations are not only executing the projects but also helping in building our capacities for future mega projects through the skill development of our local engineers, technicians, and workers. Leaving their families behind, the professionals from China, Malaysia, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Russia, Ukraine, and so on have been embracing the Bangladeshis so well that it has become a strong brotherhood among the teams working together.

Professionals from different countries work together on various mega projects in Bangladesh through mutual cooperation

Our local professionals have been going through a learning process by working on mega-construction projects to understand how professionalism, integrity, and discipline can develop a nation. Especially our young professionals are gaining lifetime experience to enrich their careers and pride in their contribution to the nation.

In Bangladesh, we used to lack the opportunity to develop skills in various technical fields, including piping, instrumentation, commissioning, safety, quality assurance, quality control, and so on. But through these important projects, the skill gap is mitigating day by day. I have been working in Bouetec Technologies, a Malaysian company working in the installation of the turbine, condenser, heater, and power piping in the Matarbari 2 x 600 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal Fired Power Plant Project. Through a skilled workforce, we are not just executing our works, we are also learning from each other through knowledge sharing in an interactive work environment.

Leaving families behind, most people lead lonely lives here. They are often unable to consume the way they would want due to the high cost of food around the project area which is often located in remote places. In addition, due to security concerns, people cannot travel around and confine themselves to the project area only. Yet the locals and foreigners stay together here as families and share all their joys and sorrows together.

There is no formal educational institute for studying piping, instrumentation, safety, or some other specialized subjects in our country. We are far behind as academic knowledge cannot often be interpreted into skills in professional fields. To compete with the outside world, the subject list must be updated and the quality of education must be improved to ensure bridging between the academic knowledge and professional skill. In addition, we should retain and utilize our skilled manpower developed through various mega projects so they do not move to another profession or migrate abroad.
