Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an environment advisor, has advocated for a move away from single-use plastics and polythene in order to save biodiversity and create a sustainable environment.
Speaking on Monday at a gathering at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University, she emphasized the value of planting trees and the pressing need to get rid of these dangerous materials.
The competition to draw a picture of nature and discussions about plastic waste were also part of the event, which had the theme “Sustainable environment and biodiversity conservation in a non-discriminatory atmosphere with the spirit of harmony.”
“To make the Earth safe for everyone, we must discard single-use plastics,” stated Rizwana. Today, polythene must be rejected. We must plant more trees because they are the natural barrier that protects us. It is no longer appropriate to encourage the growth of alien tree species.
“I believe Dhaka University will spearhead this initiative.” “This program is a big step in the right direction towards raising awareness,” she continued.
Participants in the program, both students and environmentalists, actively engaged in various aspects. Notably, in the nature-drawing competition, students used their artwork to convey their opinions on environmental conservation.
