Metropolis Desk-
Today, a worker lost his life when a crowd in the Konabari area of Gazipur set fire to a clothing business.
The 32-year-old man was killed by burning while participating in an RMG labor strike demanding greater pay.
According to fire service sources, the factory, ABM Fashion, was set on fire at 5:35 p.m. by a group of irate individuals.
About 9:00 p.m., four fire engines working with the police put out the fire, according to Rashed bin Khaled, the duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense control room.
He also said that the body had been found on the building’s first level.
Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector Rezaul Karim suggests that the plant may have been set on fire by protesters from neighboring factories.
At approximately 3:00 pm, witnesses reported that employees from multiple clothing manufacturers had stopped the Dhaka-Tangail highway near Konabari, voicing their demands for a raise in pay.
At one point, the demonstrators approached ABM Fashion and invited the staff to take part in the demonstration.
The workers were unable to leave at this point because the ABM clothing authority had closed the gate. Bricks were thrown at the ABM employees by the protesting workers during this period.
Enraged, a few plant officials flung brick chunks from the six-story building’s roof at the demonstrators.
As three floors of the plant were being destroyed by the fighting, the fire started.
A factory assistant named Swapna Begum stated, “None of our employees did it. Our facility was set on fire by outside laborers.”
Echoing her, Shahidul Islam, the owner of the tea stall in front of the factory, said that the fire was started by demonstrators outside.
