A bus collided with a battery-operated human hauler and a rickshaw-van in Tangail’s Dhanbari upazila on Sunday, killing four persons, two of whom were schoolgirls, and injuring two more.
Roshni and Bithi Akter, both 13 years old, of Baghil Village, and Abdul Hakim, 65, of Norilla Village in Dhanbari Upazla, were killed while riding in a human hauler. Another victim of the collision was a passenger in a rickshaw vehicle, Mostofa Miah, 52, of Hadira village in Gopalpur upazila of Tangail.
Roshni and Bithi were seventh-grade pupils at the nearby Bhaighat High School. The collision happened on the Tangail-Jamalpur highway in the Baghil region at 1:00 pm, according to police.
Four injured people were saved and rushed to the Madhupur Upazila Health Complex by members of the Dhanbari Fire Service and Civil Defense based on information.
At the health complex, one of the schoolgirls was pronounced dead, and at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the other schoolgirl passed away from her wounds.
Police attempted to seize the bus, but the driver managed to escape. Locals blocked the roadway for an hour in protest of the accident, causing a backlog on both sides of the road. After the police removed the blockade, regular traffic flowed again.
