Russia Launches 3rd Consecutive Overnight Air Attack on Kyiv Ahead of Peace Talks with US

Russia launched its third consecutive overnight airstrike on Kyiv, injuring one person and damaging several homes in the area surrounding the Ukrainian capital, according to Kyiv’s regional governor on Monday. A 37-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds to his upper body and head and has been hospitalized, Governor Mykola Kalashnyk reported via Telegram.

Late Sunday, in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, Russia’s attack wounded a 54-year-old woman and damaged windows of multi-story residential buildings, as stated by the regional administration on Telegram.

These attacks followed a meeting between a Ukrainian delegation and US officials for peace talks in Saudi Arabia, and ahead of Russia-US discussions there on Monday regarding Black Sea shipping safety.

The United States is pushing for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, aiming for a broad ceasefire by April 20, as reported by Bloomberg News, citing sources familiar with the situation. Despite efforts for peace, both sides have continued to report ongoing strikes.

The full extent of the overnight attack has not been immediately confirmed, and there was no immediate response from Russia. Both Ukraine and Russia deny targeting civilians in the conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Air raid alerts were issued for Kyiv, its surrounding region, and eastern Ukraine for several hours starting late Sunday, according to Ukraine’s air force maps.
