The High Court decision granting bail to Sohel Rana, owner of the tragic Rana Plaza, in a murder case brought hours after the structure’s collapse approximately ten years ago, was yesterday postponed until May 8.
After this, Rana won’t be let out of custody, according to Md Qamrul Islam, his lawyer.
After receiving a plea from the state contesting the HC decision, Judge Md Abu Jafor Siddique, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, issued the ruling.
The state’s appeal was also forwarded to the full bench of the supreme court by the chamber judge for further consideration on May 8.
According to Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi, who argued for the state during the court, Rana’s charges are so serious that he cannot be released on bail.
