The Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is currently around 77.5 percent of the way complete. The first week of October will see a soft opening for the historic terminal.
This information was disclosed today at a press conference held on the first floor of the terminal building that is still under construction by Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, the chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).
“77.5 percent of the project has already been finished. As per the government’s decision, we anticipate the soft opening taking place in the first week of October. Before October, we want to have completed 90 percent of the project. Hopefully, the project will be finished ahead of schedule, said the CAAB chairman.
Now everyone can see the terminal building. The terminal is currently being furnished inside and has various pieces of equipment installed.
Despite having a soft opening in October, according to Mafidur Rahman, the terminal won’t be completely operational until 2024.
In December 2019, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially began work on the third terminal’s development, which will cost Tk 21,399 crore.
There will be 115 check-in counters, 64 departure and 64 arrival immigration desks, 27 baggage scanning machines, 40 scanning machines, 12 boarding bridges, 16 carousels, and 11 body scanners in the 2.30 lakh square meter, three-story terminal structure.
Following the completion of the third terminal, for which the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) is providing 70 percent of the funds, about two crore passengers will be able to utilize the HSIA.
