Six Dead, Seven Injured in Bridge Crash in Central China

Six people were killed and seven injured early Monday morning when a car lost control and collided with bicycles and other vehicles on a bridge in Zhuzhou, Hunan province, China, according to police.

The incident occurred when the car was rear-ended, causing it to veer into oncoming traffic.

Video footage shared on Chinese social media depicted a large white van crashing into oncoming vehicles on Lusong Bridge, with debris strewn across the road and multiple ambulances at the scene blocking traffic.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, as reported by state media Xinhua News Agency.

Traffic accidents are a common occurrence in China, often attributed to lax safety standards and chaotic driving behavior.

Earlier this month, a school bus in eastern China struck a crowd outside a middle school, resulting in the deaths of 11 parents and students. State broadcaster CCTV reported that the driver “lost control” of the vehicle.

In July, another tragic incident in Changsha involved a vehicle hitting pedestrians, which left eight people dead and five injured. A 55-year-old suspect was detained in connection with that case, but it remains unclear whether the crash was intentional.
