The IT industry and the move to a greener economy have piqued Sweden’s interest in working with Bangladesh.
When Shahriar Alam, the state minister for foreign affairs of Bangladesh, and Hkan Jevrell, the state secretary for Swedish international development cooperation and foreign trade, met in Stockholm, Jevrell expressed his interest in this region.
To advance software technology, 4iR-enabled agriculture, and human resource development, Shahriar Alam asked for tight collaboration.
He commended Sweden for its ongoing support of Bangladesh’s development, in particular for its work to advance gender equality, improve the living conditions of the underprivileged, and provide aid to the Rohingya.
Shahriar Alam called on the regional nations, including ASEAN, to play a proactive role in ensuring the safe and sustainable repatriation of the Rohingya, the end of armed conflicts, and a peaceful transition to a civilian government through elections in Myanmar at the Oslo Forum, which was hosted by Norway in collaboration with the Geneva-based Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue.
