Desk Report –
India defeated Bangladesh by five runs in their fourth Super 12 encounter of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday in Adelaide. Bangladesh needed to score 20 runs in the final over to win the game, but the Tigers only managed to score 14.
Bangladesh needed 85 from 54 balls to reach a revised mark after the one-hour interruption caused by the rain, but the Tigers were unable to complete the task. Before the rain, Liton Das had gone 59 runs without losing. He only managed one run before getting caught in a run-out.
At that time, Bangladesh began to fall behind in the game. After Liton was dismissed, Bangladesh kept losing the wicket, and eventually they were outscored by five runs and lost the game. Arshdeep and Hardik Pandya each claimed two wickets for India.
Virat Kohli earlier scored an unbeaten 64 off 44 balls to lead India to a huge total of 184 for 6 against Bangladesh in their fourth World Cup match of the Super 12.
In this game, Shoriful Islam was selected to replace Soumya Sarkar and gave up 57 runs without taking a wicket. The other pacer, Hasan Mahmud, took three wickets but gave up more than 11 runs per over.
When they only gave up 37 runs and took one wicket during the power play, the Bangladeshi bowlers were impressive. Hasan mishandled a dolly throw from Taskin Ahmed to Rohit Sharma at the boundary. However, Hasan dismissed Rohit for two runs in the fourth over when Yasir made a superb catch.
Starting with the first over, Taskin dominated. Early in the innings, he finished bowling, allowing just 15 runs. He appeared to be unplayable for the Indian batsmen at one point. However, he had bad luck and went without a wicket.
Lokesh Rahul was blazing in the center. He scored 24 runs in the ninth over Shoiful Islam bowled. In that over, the left-arm seamer gave up two sixes along with a no-ball and a wide. Rahul needed just 31 balls to reach fifty. Despite giving up 10 runs in his opening over, Shakib was still able to dismiss the dangerous Lokesh.
After Rohit was dismissed, Virat came to bat and unleashed some magnificent shots. In just 37 balls, Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul contributed 67 runs to the total. However, Bangladesh was able to keep Virat in check in the middle.
But in the 15th over, Mustafizur Rahman was bowled by Virat, who blasted two fours off him with an inside edge that went beyond the stumps. India was at 130 for 3 after the 15th over, with Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya each scoring 40 and 5 runs, respectively.
After Shakib dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for 30 off 16 balls, Hardik entered the batting order. Before Shakib trapped him, the top T20 hitter was becoming a threat.
India scored 54 runs in the final five overs, with Virat scoring 64 runs off 44 balls after reaching his fifty in 37 balls. Hardik Pandya was dismissed by Hasan off the first delivery of the 16th over, preventing Virat from reaching his fifty. Virat broke the 200-run milestone in this World Cup so far with this unbeaten 64*.
Shakib and Shoriful worked together to trap Dinesh Karthik in a run-out and send him back. In the death overs versus Bangladesh, he has a history of becoming dangerous. While Mustafizur Rahman gave up 31 runs but did not claim any wickets, Shakib claimed two wickets.
India moved one step closer to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022 with this victory over Bangladesh.
