Textbooks for Grades 9 and 10 to Follow 2012 Syllabus Starting 2025

The National Curriculum and Textbook Board, or NCTB, has mandated the purchase of new textbooks, declaring that for the upcoming academic year, books for grades nine and ten would adhere to the outdated 2012 curriculum.

The NCTB published a circular stating that by September 10th, the district, Upazila, or Thana secondary education offices must submit the demand online. Additionally, on September 12, permission ought to be obtained from the Upazila Secondary Education Office and the district. Regional Deputy Directors will approve the request for new textbooks.

Similar to past years, a web application has been used to gather the demand for Dakhil, SSC, and Dakhil Vocational and Technical level books for grades six through ten (both in Bangla and English).

The government has decided that, rather than using the updated and revised textbooks that will be available in 2023, pupils in grades 9 and 10 would instead use branch- and cluster-based textbooks that are based on the 2012 national curriculum.

The NCTB letter states: “You are requested to collect the demand for grades 9 and 10 textbooks from all educational institutions in your region, district, Upazila and Thana and send it through the new web application within the stipulated time frame.

“The Awami League government’s demise has resulted in significant changes to the secondary school system. At the secondary level, the science, commerce, and humanities streams will be reinstated. The 2012 National Curriculum and the evaluation method will resemble each other quite a bit.

The education ministry’s deputy secretary for secondary and higher education, Rahima Akhter, signed a circular on September 1st, 2022, stating that the 2022 National Curriculum was “not implementable” because of a number of problems.

The circular also listed the following as barriers to curriculum implementation: insufficient institutional capacity, unclear and unfavorable perceptions of the text’s content and assessment methodology, and inadequate teacher preparation.

It has been determined that the yearly examination for grades six through nine will be administered using an updated and revised curriculum, with textbook revisions to begin the following year.

The six secondary subject-based evaluation schemes will also be discontinued.

In the 2026 SSC and comparable exams, the streams in business studies, humanities, and science will remain unchanged. In 2025, the textbooks will receive updates and corrections as soon as feasible.
