Three Bangladeshis Shine in Australian Film ‘Hindi Vindi’

The Indo-Australian co-production Hindi Vindi has premiered in Australian theaters, featuring notable contributions from three Bangladeshis in acting, poster design, and distribution.

Bangladeshi-origin actress Rupanty Akid stars as “Rihana,” a young Australian woman in the film. Meanwhile, Sajjadul Islam Sayeem designed the film’s poster and visual art, and Tanim Al Minarul Mannan, founder of distribution company BongOz Films, is handling its release.

Directed by Sydney-based Indian filmmaker Ali Sayed, Hindi Vindi has received a warm reception from both audiences and critics, according to Rupanty.

At a screening in Sydney, she expressed her excitement to Glitz, saying, “The response has been overwhelming. Many viewers approached me after the show, sharing how much they loved the film. They told me the story resonated with them, and they connected deeply with my character, Rihana.”

The film features a star-studded cast, including Bollywood actress Neena Gupta, young actor Mihir Ahuja, and Australian singer Guy Sebastian, who makes his acting debut in this project.

Reflecting on her experience, Rupanty shared, “The entire shoot took place in Australia, and working alongside Neena Gupta and Mihir Ahuja was an incredible experience. Initially, some people doubted my casting and acting abilities. But after the release, they were pleasantly surprised and showered me with praise. That recognition means the world to me.”

Mannan, overseeing the film’s distribution, expressed pride in being part of the project.

“I first met director Ali Sayed at the South Asian Film Festival. When he shared the story of the film, I was instantly drawn to it. I have a deep appreciation for cultural films like this, and Hindi Vindi beautifully strengthens intercultural connections,” he said.

Mannan also revealed that Hindi Vindi has been released in over 40 theaters across Australia.

“It’s amazing to see Bangladeshi talents like Rupanty’s acting and Sayeem’s artistic contributions being recognized in an international production,” he added.

The film follows the journey of Kabir, a young musician living in Australia with his father. One day, his grandmother travels from India in search of him. Inspired by her words and cultural heritage, Kabir embarks on a mission to learn Hindi to reconnect with his roots. He dreams of singing a song in Hindi for his grandmother, but mastering the language proves to be a challenge. His struggle to bridge the gap between heritage and identity forms the core of the story.

Mihir Ahuja plays Kabir, with Rupanty as his love interest. Neena Gupta takes on the role of Kabir’s grandmother, while Guy Sebastian portrays his father.
