Three people were killed when a truck collided head-on with a CNG-run autorickshaw in Kaliakair Upazila, Gazipur.
Two other individuals were injured in the crash, which occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday on the Maona-Fulbari regional road in the Namashulai area, according to police.
The autorickshaw was transporting passengers from Maona Chowrasta in Sreepur to Kaliakair when it crashed into a brick-laden truck traveling in the opposite direction, police said, based on witness accounts.
The collision left the autorickshaw severely damaged. The driver, known only as Obaidul, along with a woman and an elderly man, died at the scene. Another passenger, who sustained critical injuries, was taken to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
The truck driver fled the scene shortly after the incident.
“Three people died in the head-on collision. While we have identified the driver, we are still working to confirm the identities of the other victims. Legal action will be taken regarding the incident,” said Sub-Inspector Kamrul Hasan of Kaliakair Police Station.
