The national budget for the fiscal year 2024–25, worth Tk 7,97,000 crore, was approved by the parliament today with the goal of maintaining annual inflation at roughly six percent and reaching a GDP growth rate of 6.75 percent.
The Appropriations Bill 2024, introduced by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, sought a Tk 12,41,752 crore budgetary allocation and was approved by voice vote.
The Finance Bill 2024 was ratified by the parliament earlier on Saturday with a few minor adjustments.
The finance ministry presented a proposal to the House for parliamentary approval of the appropriation of funds for the government’s necessary development and non-development expenditures. The relevant ministers then used 59 grant requests to justify the expenditures made by their respective ministries.
Only 251 cut-motions—a total of 59 requests for funds for various ministries—standing in the names of opposition members were previously rejected by the parliament by voice voting.
Cut motions were put forth by a total of seven MPs: Nasser Shahrear Zahedee, Hamidul Haque Khandker, Abul Kalam, Suhrab Uddin, and Jatiya Party members Mujibul Huq and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Nonetheless, they were permitted to take part in the conversation about the Social Welfare Ministry, Secondary and Higher Studies Division, and Law Ministry.
