A truck and an autorickshaw collided head-on in Tarakanda Upazila, Mymensingh, killing four members of the same family. Two more people sustained injuries in the accident.
According to Tarakanda Police Station chief Tipu Sultan, the incident happened Thursday morning in the Gachtala section of the Mymensingh-Netrokona highway.
The deceased have been identified as Abdur Rashid, 55, from Satberikanda in Netrokona; his wife, Bakula Akter, 42; Bakula’s brother, 44; and Bidya’s 18-year-old daughter-in-law, Labni Akhter.
Rashid worked at a clothing factory in Sreepur, Gazipur, while his brother-in-law, Bidya, was a mason.
A dump truck traveling in the opposite direction collided head-on with an autorickshaw that was traveling from Mymensingh to Netrokona, according to police, who cited locals. Two people immediately perished.
Two of the four injured patients admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital later died.
Currently undergoing treatment at the hospital are Antur Mia, an autorickshaw driver, and Bidya’s wife, Lovely Begum.
Labni’s father, Lal Mia, told the media that Rashid and the rest of the family left the Masterbari neighborhood of Sreepur at around four in the morning to visit Rashed’s father-in-law, Khorshed Alam.
They were caught in the collision after renting an autorickshaw in Mymensingh.
The bodies of Bidya and Labni are at the Shyamganj Police Outpost, and the bodies of Bakula and Rashid are at the morgue of the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The family will receive the bodies after the autopsies are complete, according to Tarakanda police OC Tipu.
The truck driver took off with his car after the collision. The police are trying to find him.
