A deadly fire erupted in Savar, Dhaka, following a road collision between an ambulance and two buses, which triggered an explosion of a gas cylinder. Four people inside the ambulance tragically lost their lives due to severe burn injuries, and several others were injured.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. on Thursday along the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, in the Police Town area of Rajpur Baria, as reported by Saugatul Alam, the chief of Savar Highway Police Station.
According to Meherul Islam, the head of the Savar Fire Service and Civil Defence, a bus traveling in the Dhaka-bound lane collided with the ambulance from behind, causing the gas cylinder inside the vehicle to explode. The explosion set the ambulance on fire, which then spread to the bus that caused the collision, as well as a nearby Shyamoli Paribahan bus.
Firefighters from two units arrived at the scene and worked for nearly two and a half hours to control the flames.
The remains of the four victims have been recovered and sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsies, with identification efforts underway.
The burnt vehicles have been cleared from the highway, according to OC Saugatul. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
