U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday criticized Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky over remarks suggesting that a resolution to the war with Russia was not imminent.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared an Associated Press article titled, “Ukraine’s Zelenskyy says end of war with Russia is ‘very, very far away.'”
“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump wrote, using an alternate spelling of Zelensky.
His comments come after a tense exchange with Zelensky in the Oval Office on Friday, ahead of what was expected to be the signing of an agreement concerning Ukraine’s vast natural resources.
However, the deal was never finalized after Trump and his vice president, JD Vance, rebuked Zelensky for what they saw as a lack of gratitude for U.S. assistance and a disrespectful attitude.
