Two people have died and three others have been injured after a head-on collision between a bus and an autorickshaw in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila.
The incident took place around 7:30 am on Saturday in the Ahsanmara Bridge area, located between Sadar Upazila and Shantiganj Upazila, according to Md Abdur, the chief of Jaykalash Highway Police Station.
The deceased have been identified as Ali Noor and Jamir Hossain, both 30 years old, from Ratanpur village in the Betganj Bazar area of Sadar Upazila.
The injured victims are Amir Ali, Ali Akbar, and Janik Palak, who were admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
A bus traveling from Sunamganj town to Sylhet collided head-on with an autorickshaw coming from Sylhet, said highway police official Abdur. The accident left five people, including the autorickshaw driver, injured.
Police responded to the incident and, with the help of locals, transported the injured to the hospital. Noor and Jamir succumbed to their injuries on the way. The others are currently receiving treatment.
Sub Inspector Tushar Kanti Deb of Shantiganj Police Station said he visited the scene after receiving the report and found the damaged autorickshaw on the roadside.
The bus driver fled the scene after the accident, he added.
