Two Killed in Stabbing Incident at S Alam Power Plant

Two security guards at the coal-powered Gondamara plant owned by S Alam Group were “stabbed” to death in Banshkhali, Chattogram.

Inside the power plant, the event happened on Monday at around 2:50 a.m.

Sarwar Alam, 51, a former Bangladesh Army senior warrant officer, was one of the deceased. He was the SS Power Plant’s lead assistant security officer. The other was 22-year-old Rashed Jawarder, a power plant security guard.

Sarwar was from Nagarkanda, in the village of Talma in Faridpur. Rashed was a native of Rajbari’s Pangsha, Sarbankhola village.

“With the intention of stealing, two individuals went inside the power plant. Sarwar and Rashed attempted to stop them as they ran. They were brutally stabbed by the thieves during their attack. After that, they left the area. The injured were brought to the hospital, where the attending physician pronounced them deceased,” stated Banshkhali Police Station Chief Tofael Ahmed.

“After the police prepared the Surathal or first report, the bodies were sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.”

The OC stated that more police officers had been sent to the location and that legal documentation was being assembled.

The S Alam Group and the Chinese construction company SEPCO3 collaborated to build the $2.6 billion 1,320 MW SS Power Plant near the Bay of Bengal.
