Hypermarkets and super shops across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have declared up to 75 percent off on over 10,000 food and nonfood products during the holy Ramadan, the Khaleej Times reported today.
According to the major UAE newspaper the big retailers of the oil-rich Middle Eastern country announced reduction of prices to benefit their consumers and their decision came 10 days ahead of the start of the Muslims month of restraints.
“Shoppers can benefit from up to 75 percent off on over 10,000 food and nonfood products during the holy month,” read the Khaleej Times report.
The report from the UAE came while police headquarters in Dhaka today said their officers in field level were ordered to enforce a vigil of kitchen markets to prevent increase of commodity prices and profit mongers from taking advantage of peoples demand during the holy month, reports BSS.
“Instructions have also been given to take necessary steps to ensure that none creates any untoward situation by spreading rumours about price hike and insufficiency of food stock,’ police’s additional inspector general Md Atiqul Islam said.
His comments came following a police headquarters meeting with field level officials up to police commissioners and deputy inspectors general level.
The Khaleez Times report said the big UAE retailers decided to reduce prices of essentials up to 75 percent last week while other retailers last month announced 50 percent discount on thousands of products including groceries for six weeks, coinciding with the Ramadan.
