Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, started his two-day visit to Dhaka today to talk about human rights issues.
He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning, greeted by Toufique Hasan, the director general (UN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Among other people, Türk is expected to meet with representatives of civil society and high-ranking officials.
The UN office in Dhaka stated that the high commissioner will meet with Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus during his visit.
The heads of various reform commissions, the army chief, and several advisers from various ministries will meet with the UN rights chief.
Additionally, Türk will speak at the University of Dhaka, where he will speak to students who are active in the current movement.
He will meet with representatives of diplomatic missions in Bangladesh as well as UN agencies.
At the conclusion of his mission tomorrow, the high commissioner will hold a press conference in Dhaka.
