UN Warns Insufficient Funding for Rohingya Refugee Aid Amid Ration Cuts

Metropolis Report-

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has questioned the funding for relief efforts aiding Rohingya refugees in southern Bangladesh, claiming that the existing ration cutbacks are insufficient.

The amount of the food vouchers for campers has been decreased from $12 per person per month to $10 and then to just $8, or 27 cents each day.

The longer the Rohingya families wait, the more hunger they will experience in the camps, according to the WFP, which is pleading for complete help.

Since the crisis began, the UNHCR has been helping the Rohingya refugees, but the only trustworthy source for supplying them with the essential foods they require is the WFP food assistance.

The UNHCR says that barely 25% of the $875 million needed to reach nearly one million refugees in need under the 2023 Rohingya humanitarian crisis response plan has been allocated.

Since women and children make up more than 75% of the refugee population and are more likely to experience abuse, exploitation, and gender-based violence, the effects of these cuts are especially devastating for them.

More aid from the international community will be required to stop the humanitarian situation in the camps from getting worse.
