In the first four months of this year, the United States imported readymade clothing (RMG) worth $25.21 billion from various nations.
According to information from the US Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Garments (OTEXA), local news outlets reported that the US imported garments worth $32.39 billion during this time last year, which is around 22.15 percent more than it imported last year.
RMG shipments from Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India to the US have decreased as a result.
In the months of January through April 2023, Bangladesh exported RMG goods worth $2.7 billion. During this time in 2022, exports of clothing brought in $3.28 billion.
RMG shipments from Bangladesh to the US decreased by 17.88 percent from January to April of this year.
Bangladesh performed better on the American market than the majority of other exporters, as readymade garment shipments from China to the US fell by 32.45 percent during that time and by 27.33 percent from Vietnam.
