Uzra Zeya, the US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, and Donald Lu, the US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, came to Cox’s Bazar to visit Rohingya camps.
At nine in the morning, Zeya led the 10-person US State Department group to Cox’s Bazar, which also included US Ambassador to Dhaka Peter Haas and Refugee Coordinator Mackenzie Rowe. At 10:50 am, they went to the Rohingya registration center run by the UNHCR at Ukhiya Camp No. 9.
The delegation will meet with representatives of practically all foreign organizations present in Cox’s Bazar while visiting the Nutrition Centre and Cultural Memory Center. Additionally, they will have face-to-face interactions with the Rohingya refugees during the day’s numerous programs.
After speaking with representatives of the government’s refugee relief and repatriation program in Cox’s Bazar, Zeya and Lu will depart for Dhaka in the afternoon.
