Vietnamese President To Lam conveyed to Chinese Ambassador to Hanoi, Xiong Bo, on Tuesday the importance of managing maritime issues effectively and upholding the interests of each nation, according to a statement from his office.
The South China Sea maritime conflict between Vietnam’s two Communist-ruled neighbors has been going on for years, despite China being Vietnam’s biggest economic partner.
According to the statement, Lam stated that the nations should recognize one another’s legitimate interests during a meeting in Hanoi.
Lam stated during the meeting that “actively seeking satisfactory solutions in accordance with international law” is what the two sides must do.
The foreign ministry expressed its profound worry on Thursday on the Chinese survey vessel that was found in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.
During the meeting on Tuesday, Lam stated that Vietnam prioritizes its foreign policy and has made friendship and cooperation with China a strategic option.
President Xi Jinping of China visited Hanoi in December and signed dozens of agreements for cooperation, including those related to railways.
During the discussion, Lam reaffirmed the significance of improving rail connectivity between the two nations and urged China to expand its market for Vietnamese agricultural exports.
