Dr. Kazi Ertaza Hassan, the editor and publisher of the Bengali daily Vorer Pata, and three other people have been charged by the Police Bureau of Investigation with fraud and forgery for registering land using forged documents.
Prof. Abu Yousuf Mohammed Abdullah of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University (DU) and Ertaza’s two assistants, Reazul Alam and Selim Munshi, round out the group of four.
According to court sources, PBI Sub-Inspector Md Mehedi Hasan, who is also the case’s investigation officer, presented the charge sheet to Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Professor Yousuf, who is also the chairman of the board of trustees at Northern University Bangladesh, Kazi Ertaza, another FBCCI director, Prasad Nirman Ltd., and two other defendants were earlier detained and are currently out on bail in the case.
An official of the CMM Court stated that the charge sheet will be presented to the court on March 29 for further action.
Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, the deputy managing director of Ashiyan Lands Development, reported the incident to Khilkhet Police Station on January 10 of 2022, alleging them as well as six to seven other individuals.
