According to American media sites, a suspicious white powder discovered at the White House over the weekend has been recognized as cocaine.
On Sunday at around 8:45 p.m. local time (0:45 a.m. GMT on Monday), Secret Service agents found the powder in a West Wing location that was open to the public. This discovery led to a brief evacuation of the building.
Joe Biden, the president, wasn’t present at the time. Instead, he was spending the weekend at Camp David, the presidential retreat.
Fire and emergency service personnel arrived to conduct quick testing on the material. These preliminary examinations revealed that the powder was cocaine.
Soon later, the White House reopened, and the powder was sent for more testing.
While stating that an “item” had been discovered and tested, the Secret Service has not yet specified what the material was.
The organization in charge of presidential security issued a statement saying, “The item was sent for additional evaluation, and an investigation into the cause and manner of how it entered the White House is pending.
However, the substance was noted in numerous media publications, citing official sources. According to The Washington Post, which used an online database of emergency responder communications, “a firefighter with the DC department’s hazardous materials team radioed the results” of the tested powder.
The radio dispatcher announced, “We have a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride.”
Tour groups frequent the location where the cocaine was discovered.
The West Wing is a section of the White House that is connected to the president’s residence, the executive mansion. The Oval Office, the Cabinet Room, and the Press Room are all located there, along with the president’s staff members’ offices and workplaces.
Hundreds of people frequently visit or work in the area.
The president was scheduled to address a national teachers union and hold a BBQ to celebrate the US Independence Day when Biden and his family left for Camp David on Friday. They arrived back at the White House on Tuesday.
