In the UK, a novel product has hit the market that uses a woman’s saliva to determine whether she is pregnant. Salistick is the first product in the world, according to Metro, that can identify pregnancy based solely on a “spit test.” It is a substitute for conventional urine-based pregnancy tests that are offered to women and is accessible in the UK and Ireland. The test kit was created by Salignostics, a startup with its headquarters in Jerusalem. According to the manufacturer, it is based on the technology used to create Covid testing kits.
The innovative product enables testing anytime, anywhere, and with a greater number of participants.
For the test to be effective, a woman must briefly place a foam-tipped stick from the kit in her mouth to act as a thermometer. This is used to gather a saliva sample.
The test is based on technology that recognizes hCG, a hormone unique to pregnancy that aids in getting the uterus ready for the embryo’s development. Salistick, according to its developers, offers extremely accurate early pregnancy detection.
Additionally, it has requested FDA authorization to market the product in the US.
Following clinical trials in Israel on more than 300 women, both pregnant and not, Salignostics released the product.
