A $300 million funding agreement has been announced between Bangladesh and the World Bank to provide 900,000 economically disengaged rural adolescents with the skills and alternative education they need for employment and entrepreneurship.
The Economic Acceleration and Resilience for NEET (EARN) Project aims to overcome barriers that prevent disadvantaged youths from gaining education and employment.
The project will provide skills training, alternative education, employment, and entrepreneurial support to rural youth not in education, employment, or training (NEET).
Vocational training centers will be established, offering market-driven and futuristic trades, and competitive financing and mentorship support for entrepreneurial activities.
The project aims to develop a competitive workforce, address cultural and social norms that drive exclusion, and help secondary school dropouts complete vocational secondary education.
The credit is from the World Bank’s International Development Association and has a 30-year term, including a five-year grace period.
