The unveiling of a rail and shipping connectivity network connecting the US, India, Saudi Arabia, and Gulf and Arab states, as well as the need to overcome the “global trust deficit” were some of the key takeaways from the G20 meeting in Delhi.
1. A new global order is being promoted with the addition of the African Union as the G20’s newest permanent member, giving emerging countries more influence over international policy.
2. An extensive rail and sea communication network connecting the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, Gulf Arab countries, and the European Union has been announced.
3. The Delhi Declaration was ratified with the support of China and Russia. It urged countries to preserve international law, especially international humanitarian law, territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the multilateral framework that protects peace and stability. It is being offered as a substitute for China’s Belt and Road initiative, which has left many developing nations, like Pakistan, Kenya, Zambia, Laos, and Mongolia, heavily indebted.
4. To promote the use of cleaner fuels, PM Modi announced the formation of the Global Biofuel Alliance. It was confirmed that by allowing commerce in biofuels made from a variety of sources, including plant and animal waste, this alliance will quicken efforts made by the world to reach net zero emission targets.
5. Greater coordination between G20 members is required to address the trust deficit that has grown in recent years.
