Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to support Bangladesh in its efforts to join the BRICS and ensure a permanent solution to the Rohingya issue.
During a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Xi assured that his country will always support Bangladesh in resolving the Rohingya issue and assisting in developing energy, renewable energy, and infrastructure.
He also expressed his keenness to help Dhaka in the development of energy, renewable energy, and infrastructure. During the talks, Xi stressed the need to reduce the trade gap between Bangladesh and China, stating that Bangladesh imports Chinese goods worth $20 billion annually and China imports Bangladeshi goods worth only $700 million.
He also assured of taking the initiative to reduce the imbalance in China-Bangladesh trade and urged Bangladesh to export fresh fruits to China.
The Chinese president also invited the Bangladesh premier to visit China to witness the opening of the Padma Rail Bridge in October.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her eagerness to visit China, but the time of her visit will be determined through talks between foreign ministers of both countries.
