Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa’s FIDE World Cup journey ended in a heartbreaking defeat against world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in a tie-break. 

Carlsen won the title after a 45-move win in the first tiebreak, but Praggnanandhaa’s impressive performance in the classical games led to a draw in the second tiebreak. 

Praggnanandhaa’s impressive performance included victories over Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana, culminating in a finals clash against Carlsen. 

His achievements secured his qualification for the Candidates 2024 tournament in Toronto, solidifying his position as the third youngest player to qualify for the prestigious Candidates tournament.
