Biden Wishes to Build Positive Ties with Bangladesh: Abdul Momen

Metropolis Report –

The talks between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, according to Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, took place in a highly amicable and warm environment, showing the strength of the two nations’ bilateral ties.

“He (Biden) has all the intention to build a good relationship with Bangladesh,” he told reporters on Saturday in New Delhi about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s engagements there, according to UNB.

The invitation to attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit from her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi brought the Bangladeshi prime minister to New Delhi on Friday. She spoke during two summit sessions, spoke with US Vice President Joe Biden, and met with several summit participants outside of the formal sessions.

Hasina held one-on-one discussions with the leaders of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Argentina’s Alberto Angel Fernandez, South Korea’s Yoon Suk Yeol, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In response to a query, Momen said, “It [discussions between Biden, Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, and Saima Wazed on two different occasions, including over dinner in a very cordial environment] is the evidence that we have strong, long-lasting ties with Washington and that we will continue to do so.” According to him, the USA is sending representatives and holding talks to further strengthen its ties with Bangladesh.

The American administration is not putting any pressure on us, he claimed; rather, it is the media.

The foreign minister reported a 15-minute conversation between Joe Biden, Sheikh Hasina, and her daughter Saima Wazed outside the G-20 Summit in the Indian capital’s Pragati Maidan.

“Our Prime Minister was observed to be quite joyful and enthused when speaking with President Biden, and the conversation took place in a very pleasant and welcoming environment. The debate lasted roughly 15 minutes”, he claimed.

He claimed that as the premier of Bangladesh and her daughter, Saima Wazed, was speaking with Joe Biden, the ambassador-at-large for the prime minister, Mohammad Ziauddin, pulled out his phone to snap a photo of the occasion. “President Biden used his cellphone and took a selfie,” he continued.
