Bumper wheat yield expected in Manikganj

Manikganj farmers are expecting a bumper production of wheat during the current season due to favourable weather conditions.

Officials at Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the district  said they set a target for cultivating wheat on 315 hectares of land with a production target of 1,77.3 tonnes of wheat. But wheat was cultivated on 368 hectares in the district, exceeding its fixed target.

In recent years, the cultivation of wheat declined in the district, but the farmers are showing interest to cultivate this food grain in all seven upazilas of the district as it has a great demand in the markets round the year.

Farmer Ali in Daulatpur area of the district said the condition of wheat farming is good since its farming started in the area due to suitable weather and fertile land this season.

Another wheat grower Rana Mia of Manikganj Sadar upazila said Wheat is one of the less-irrigation consuming crops and it has a great demand in the markets round the year.
