Early this morning, an oil tanker on the Shitalakkhya River near Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj caught fire, inflicting burn injuries on eight people.
The injured were Mannan Rahad (age 23), Humayun Kabir (age 54), Tajul Islam Limon (age 24), Imtiaz Ahmed (age 42), Rubel (age 38), Sohel (age 38), Nazmul (33) and Rakib (age 24).
Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery in Dhaka is currently treating five of them.
Eight individuals were brought in for treatment, according to Md. Tariqul Islam, medical director of the burn unit’s emergency room. While the remaining three have received first aid and have departed, five of them are being treated for uncomfortable conditions.
“The blast took place in an oil tanker named OT Shanghai-8 at Dorikandi Dockyard close to Gazi Bridge in the upazila around 1:30 AM,” Inspector Ataur said.
He said that the coagulated gas was what caused the explosion.
According to Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense (Narayanganj), “Four fire service units ran to the spot and controlled the fire.”
