To improve trade ties between the two regions, the European Union (EU) and the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) have reiterated their commitment.
Both the FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam and the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley thanked the EU for its assistance during the COVID-19 epidemic and granted Bangladesh an extended three-year transition time to continue using “Everything but Arms” (EBA) facilities until 2029.
Alam emphasized the relevance of the EU as Bangladesh’s top export market, with approximately 45% of all exports to the EU in 2022–2023.
He also lauded the EU’s dedication to Bangladesh’s climate change efforts and its assistance for financial investments in green technologies.
Alam urged the EU to make sure the planned carbon border adjustment mechanism takes into account the requirements for GSP+ status for developing nations like Bangladesh.
